A New Record

I'm watching the Jets/Bills game and I just saw my first Christmas commercial on TV! It was for the Garmin GPS. This has to be the earliest Christmas commercial I've ever seen. It used to be they waiting for Thanksgiving. Then, it was at least Halloween. Pretty soon, it will be the day after Easter!

Maybe, advertisers should all unite and just come up with one holiday in the middle of the summer - Christmeastervalenhanukkwanzaaroshatine's Day!

And Speaking of Star Trek...

Last night I watched a show about the Star Trek auction held at Christie's late last year. I've always been something of a neo-Trekkie. I never really liked the original series (did you know it was cancelled after 3 seasons?). But, I have seen ever single Next Generation episode (my college roommates and I all watched) and I even own the Star Trek Technical Manual. (And, no, I've not been able to bring myself to attend a convention).

But I was very interested in this auction, and had I heard of it, I would have attended. I would have even bid on the model of the TNG Enterprise. I could part with a couple thousand dollars for it. But, the final bid seriously floored me. Do you have any idea how much that went for? $500,000!! You think my kids would be mad at me if I spent their college tuition on that?
